(delhibirdpix) Rufous-throated Wren Babbler - 01

Species: Rufous-throated Wren Babbler
Date: 30 March 2013
Location: Rachet Trail (~2400m), Lava, Darjeeling Distt., West Bengal, India
Remarks: A brilliantly sunny day and these wren babblers were fairly active. We heard three birds singing in the same area - and it appeared territorial. This bird abandoned its usual skulking hermitage and fearlessly showed up in the open mid-day sunshine, and its sudden appearance was only by Providence. Upon hearing one fellow, a second bird dared to contest and summoned his own song, however we could not trace its whereabouts. On our return from the hike, late afternoon, we heard another bird calling again far below in the ravine, but the source of the sound seemed rather distant and we concluded that it may be a third individual. The hill slope was a cardamom plantation, and giant boulders and big rocks were strewn in the area.
