(delhibirdpix) Yellow-throated Fulvetta - 01

Species: Yellow-throated Fulvetta
Date: 31 March 2013
Location: Chaudaferi Trail (~2400m), Neora Valley National Park, Darjeeling Distt., West Bengal, India
Remarks: Six restless Yellow-throated Fulvettas were seen in the undergrowth alongside the pathway which comprised of varied scattered shrubs, thriving patches of bamboo and mixed broad-leaved forests. The morning was sunny however the day progressed into heavily overcast and the birds were seen actively foraging around noon time, dashing from one twig to the other in the roadside shrubbery, picking and feeding while making intermittent metallic calls; Buff-barred warblers were found in nearby company hovering around mid-sized tree canopies, also a busy flock of Rufous-winged Fulvettas were picking on mossy threads from the barks of moss laden Oak trees, while the Yellow-throated Fulvettas lay much low, buried in the undergrowth, flitting inside the dense scrub and surfacing only to cover more ground, but they stayed put in the area. This was particularly at a bend beside a creek and the only sweet spot where we stumbled upon the dainty, agile and exquisitely colored and aptly named Yellow-throated Fulvettas in this trail! Three birds early in the morning, while a flock of six around noon - same spot. Coordinates: N 27.05' 22.6" & E 88.39' 43.0"
