[BirdPhotoIndia] Hen Harrier (female) | East Sikkim

Distant shot of a female Hen Harrier.
Lungthung, East Sikkim (~12,500 ft)
1st December, 2013.

On a cold and foggy December morning, three Hen Harriers, two females and a male, flew gracefully around a hill and hunted amidst the fog. The hills were covered with drawf rhododendron, some silver fir, dry subalpine scrub and grass. These conceal a surprisingly large number of bunkers and trenches (the area has heavy military presence). The harriers glided from one side of the hill to the other, soaring higher up and coming down, hovering over bushes and picking up rodents.
