Scarlet Minivet (male)--- Renowned birder of Bengal - late Mr.Ajoy Home gave the cute name of "Aaltapori" to this gorgeous bird. (It has another Bengali name "Hazarika" which I dont like so much.) He was amazed to find a flock of these birds in the Sunderbans in the mid- 20th century. Now this species is not found in lower Bengal anymore, but can be seen in plenty in the Eastern Himalayan foothill forests. The sight of a big flock of these fairies flying amidst the green forest is really spectacular. I had seen this bird for the first time at Khunia near Chapramari forest back in 2008, and was completely awestruck. I have come across this species many a times since then, but they never failed to astonish me by their stunning colours. I was fortunate to get this male bird on a open perch during my recent Duars trip.
