(delhibirdpix) Black (Rainbow-hued) Stork

Posting on delhibirdpix after a long time. Good to be back.

This species was a revelation from the 2012 trip. Had only seen it
from afar in the past. But seen like this - upclose and in the right
light - "Black" Stork hardly seems like the appropriate name! It was
late morning and the reflected light from the water acts like a
natural diffuser illuminating the multi-hued glossy plumage. The field
guides don't come close to depicting it like this.
Our vehicle had broken down at this stop - the crankshaft had
litreally falled out. Luckily it happened at the right spot, right
next to this small pond. Ranthambhor NP, Rajasthan, India, March 2012.
