(delhibirdpix) Kutch Highlights - Lesser and Greater White-fronted Geese

Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year 2014!!

Species: Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) and Greater White-fronted Goose(Anser albifrons)
Family: Anatidae
Location: Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, India
Date: Dec 24, 2013

Equipment: Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm VR-II lens

Description: Truly a highlight of the whole tour! We came across a flock of 5 geese early in the morning at LRK. Initially mistaking them for the abundant Greylag Geese, our hearts skipped a beat when we looked at them through the cameras. There were 4 Greater White-fronted Geese and 1 Lesser White-fronted Goose in the flock.

They were feeding together for the couple of hours that we observed them. A small flock of Bar-headed Geese were also feeding some distance away, though no apparent association was observed.

Cheers,
Shreeram
