(delhibirdpix) Spot-bellied Eagle Owl from Kollam,Kerala,India

Dear friends
Here I attached the image of Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl/Forest Eagle Owl-Bubo nipalensis taken from forests of Kollam,Kerala,India during 30th January 2014.
Spot-bellied Eagleowl,a large Owl seen in broadleaved forests. The Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl is nocturnal and often spends its day hidden in dense foliage of large forest trees. This species is generally uncommon, likely needing large hunting and breeding territories and thus occurs at low densities. However, it continues to occur over a large range and is not thought to be conservation dependent. Areas where deforestation occurs are likely to be vacated by this species, which is perhaps the only widespread threat faced by this owl. This owl is noted for its strange, human-sounding call.Known as "Devil Bird' due it's blood -curdling calls at night.
I am thankful to my friend Kiran Pangode for found this bird and gave full hearted field support and encouragement.
I had an opportunity to watch this this rare /threatened nocturnal bird during day time after more than 10+years.Only heard sound in night during this period. So happy to watch this large owl for more than 45 minutes (hiding in the secondary growth) and capture this picture. An evening short after 5pm.
with warm regards
Susanth
