[BirdPhotoIndia] European Bee-eater, near Kanakapura (Karnataka), 16 Feb 2014

Big Bird Day turned out to be a Bee-eater Bonanza for us! We were disappointed when the European Bee-eaters were missing from their usual spot near Cauvery WLS (we saw a flock of 15 last year on Big Bird Day) but a little further ahead we got a consolation prize - another rarity, Blue-bearded Bee-eater!

Later in the afternoon, we were to get down to our task of surveying lakes near Kanakapura for the Bangalore Bird Count. Being extra conscientious, we decided to check out an additional lake we could see on the map. While the lake was disappointing, this detour proved fortuitous as we encountered the European Bee-eaters) in an open field under the blazing hot sun!

The two checklists mentioned above (we had a total of 8 lists):

Cheers,
Garima
