We ( 6 of us ) had a good birding day at Hyderabad with the sun shining down strongly in the morning an partly cloudy in the afternoon.
-- The first location of the Himayat Sagar reservoir surrounds has two parts divided by the barrage.One on the Shamsabad side ( Langar House ) with fields overlooking a rocky hill side over the water front and the other beyond the barrage as a park-cum-nursery with a small wooded area over the lake.The morning session from 7.30 a.m. yielded over a 100 birds in rapid succession despite the harsh sun.
The second location of the Botanical Gardens was kept for a short interlude for the targeted residents i.e.Tickell's BFC,PB Flowerpecker etc.which we succeeded.
The third location of the Ameenpur lake side was delayed by a good haf hour due to an extended lunch.The location is a wonderful mix of everything ( Water body,Rocks,dry fields,marshy grass fields,acasia woods,scrub and bush ..... all surrounded by concrete , and could have possibly yielded all the birds within the distribution with more time.Despite repetition we made good numbers but missed the raptors badly.
Overall a satisfying first experience in Hyderabad on the Big Bird Day 2014 with around 130 birds even though most (or all) of them are the common birds of the area.
