Yellow Bittern---Went for birding almost after a month to spend the Sunday morning in the lap of nature and also for some relaxation. Little did i know that a lovely surprise was awaiting me. The yellow bittern is one of the few wetland birds that had been eluding me for years. Most of the time either I had seen this bird flying at a distance, or just got a fleeting glimpse as it rushed for cover. It also becomes very difficult to locate this skulker if it sits among the dried up reeds. its colour helps it to blend so nicely with the background. So obviously I was more than happy, when i found it standing in a water-hyacinth bed. The bird seemed to more confiding that most members of its clan, and it allowed me to approach much closer.
My birder friend Risav was more busy photographing a pair of common moorhens, and he ignored the bittern, bcoz he was very certain that the bittern would fly away before i cud reach it. But thankfully I was lucky and he was wrong this time. I returned with my prize catch, and rebuked Risav for "underestimating" a bittern. All bitterns are not that shy after all :)
