(delhibirdpix) Tal Chhapar

Writing after a long break- After the freak accident on the way to Nangar forest. Crossing a 16 tier truck from the left as he was fully over loaded, just as my car reached midway of the truck a load bang and both my right widow glass shattered with the glass pieces scattered all over the car with minor injury to Vineeta and my glasses getting chipped. L:eaving me with out useable glasses. The new glasses had the wrong number and they had to be sent back for fresh glasses. I am still waiting for them and hopefully I will get them tomorrow. Reading curtailed as the present glasses no good for reading. The repot Taal Chhapar

Vineeta and I decided to pay a visit to Taal Chhapar on the 5 and 6 of April. One has to be out in the Sun in Rajasthan to feel the sun beating down on you. It saps the strength out of you if you are not used to the heat. Delhi was still cool so the heat got us un prepared.
The highlights only

Spotted Creeper nesting with there chicks seen being fed. Some very nice views of the parents busy feding the chicks and some amazing activity. The Tawny and the Steppe Eagle at arms length is a sight to see the enormous size of the claws and the beak. Some raptors seen-Hen Harrier, Eurasian SparrowHawk, Vultures-the most common was the Egyptian Vulture adults and sub-adults (or juv or young). Chestnut Bellied Sandgrouse at less than 10 feet both male and female. Hundreds and thousands of Black Bucks.
Wader at the salt pans-Dunlin, Ruffs, Sandpipers, Stints Temminck’s and little, number of pied Avaocets, House Sparrows nesting n the abandoned wells.
Chestnut Shouldered Petronia, Long Legged Buzzard, Black Shouldered Kite, Stonechat Common, Francolin Grey, Bee Eater Green, babbler Large Grey.

Birding was limited a few hrs in the morning and then after 4 pm in the evening.

The drive was Kothputli-Neem ka tans-sikar (Do not take the by pass). Go through the town over the rail bridge and on to the road to Laxmangarh, At Lazmangarh turn left and head for Salasra-Sujangarh to Taal Chhapar. We found this route to have reasonable road and less traffic. The bottle neck is Kothputli when you have to go left of the fly over to turn right to neem Ka Tana.Similarly on the way back the same problem-turn left and drive  with the fly ocer on your right. This patch is bad.

Finally must thank Pooniaji for the excellent sighting of tmhe Spotted creeper
