This bird is generally considered breeding in Himalayas, its foothills and NE India, and a winter visitor to parts of the peninsula. There are a few sight records of these birds from northern parts of Eastern Ghats and Maharashtra in summer where it may probably breed (Rasmussen, 2005). It was found in significant numbers in Simlipal on the third week of May, mostly in pairs. They were very vocal.
