(delhibirdpix) Cachar Wedge-billed Babbler 2

Species: Cachar Wedge-billed Babbler – Sphenocichla roberti - Adult

Date: 21st March 2014.

Location: On the way to Mayodhia Pass, Mishmi Hills, Arunachal Pradesh. India

Coordinates: 28.2231°N 95.8346°E. Altitude: 1431 Masl.

Habitat : Ravines of dense Broad-leaved Forest

Status: Near Threatened.

Remarks: These charmers moved deftly in the robust foliage of verdurous ravines giving fleeting glimpses only, through the compact undergrowth. Their loud and melodic (two note and four note) song dominated the delectable morning chorus of Mishmi Hills. Though territorial, they were very skittish to our presence, bar this one confiding bird that was in the open for a while, displaying his remarkable, lanceolated white-edged feathers on throat and breast. Perhaps this is the best place to get this skulker between 1400 M to 1650 M.
