All,
Attached are images of a Griffon specimen collected from outskirts of Terminal 3, Delhi International Airport on the 24th day of April 2014, by Wildlife Rescue, run by two brothers Nadeem Shehzad and Muhammad Saud, who have done remarkably brilliant work in rescuing injured birds of prey or hand rearing abandoned young fledglings, in the heart of Delhi.
Recently, Nadeem, turned up at my office premises in Connaught Place, one evening a little after eight, on his twelfth (!) injured Black Kite 'call'. Yes, I called Wildlife SOS (www.wildlifesos.org) frantically earlier that evening and they connected me to Nadeem Shehzad from Wildlife Rescue (+91 9810639698); when a recently fledged Black Kite juvenile got himself grounded, after what must have been a terrible assault with the Rhesus around my office environs, his right wing dangling on the ground, and he looked utterly miserable lugging it around; while at the same time, the bird held his guard, chasing a conniving black cat away, by simply showcasing his wingspan albeit a slightly drooping one. Nadeem came with a box, which had a cranky little Black Kite chick, which earlier in the day was found stuck in an ATM shutter. Since then he has helped me rescue two Black Kite juvs successfully within my office premises, and unfortunately one other young bird, which succumbed to injuries earlier this week. We cannot lose any more young Black Kites now.
They are doing some commendable work and we must fully support their cause and commitment towards their work. Please visit their blog or facebook page to know more, or you may visit their Bird Rescue Facility and Shelter at Chaawri Bazaar, Old Delhi or Wazirabad, North Delhi; you may also help with donations which are tax deductible under Section 80G.

Attached are the images of the Griffon they were about to rescue, but the bird was found to be dead before they reached the location, outskirts of Terminal 3, Delhi International Airport, on the 24th day of April 2014, presumably out of exhaustion or starvation. The bird specimen is in a deep freeze currently in their Rescue Facility in Wazirabad, North Delhi and images are taken hence.
The leg color is brownish, the underparts, chest and belly is not clear in the pictures as the bird is frozen. My first instinct was that it is a Himalayan Griffon, but I am not always sure in identifying raptors correctly, and seeking help.
A similar aged and plumaged bird was sighted at Okhla Bird Park, the following weekend on 26th April 14. We need help to identify this bird, much appreciate everybody's feedback.
Thanks
Puja Sharma
