Re: (delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 44.107 - Sarus Crane (Grus antigone) - 2014-292

Wonderful Sir,
A pleasure getting this report of an active Wetland breeding the Sarus.
Two issues :
 - Are the Locals conducive towards it ?
 - Feral Dogs ? (Menaka Gandhi's brigade).. They eat eggs & Chicks.
Regards- Navjit

The newly found Wetland is most probably going to rock the coming season despite
very limited rain.

We explored this area essentially for Sarus Crane and indeed found a great area.
So far six nests - one possibly hatched (the first one, could not be seen - the eggs
hatched and the Sarus moved away to the feeding areas or got washed away but
there were no remnants left) , three still with eggs and two in the process of building
up.

This is one of the Pairs that are in the process of building a Nest.  They were totally
unconcerned.  This Portrait is a crop from a Full Frame shot blown to 60"x40" (one can
see every feather in the blown-up image). The Sarus were close in Dadri Wetlands
but they have given better images here.

From Kherli-Hafijpur area (50 KMs SSE of Delhi), Greater Noida, U.P., India
on 13th September 2014.

Enjoy.
