The RBW (Retired Birders' Wing of Delhibird) decided to have a dekho of the Common Crane at Dhanauri. Post Diwali pollution and a rather lackluster sunlight conspired to make early morning photography difficult, but as always, this newly found wetland was delightful. In the main wetland area we counted over 50 Sarus visible from where we were standing. Once colud hear in the distance more Sarus calls. At different locations in the neighbourhood we found at least 20 more in pairs and in small groups. The pond had over a thousand ducks, mostly Lesser Whistling Teals, Shovellers, a few Pintains, a number of Common Pochards and lots of Common Coots.Waders included large numbers of Common Redshanks and a few Spotted, some Black-tailed Godwits and a handful of Sandpipers, Wood dominating.A number of Bronze-winged Jacanas including Juveniles obliged us with photo opportunity. On our way back we also saw another waterbody near Dhankor full of a few hudreds of Teals, Shovellers and a dozen or so Painted Storks and equal number of Woollynecks.
-- And of course there was the star attraction, the lone Common Crane.
Apologies for the colour cast of the image. The foggy cloudy morning somehow confused my camera's colour sensitivity!
