Now with Image.
Made a very relaxed and enjoyable trip on 30th July in an
overcast sky and cool breeze.
Noticed that the nesting of Sarus Crane has started a little earlier
than in 2014. Three nests were definitely active - all at Dhanauri
Wetlands - two on the east of the road and one to the west.
Had seen one Sarus in sitting position on Sunday and again at
the exact same spot on 30th. My conclusion - an active nest. I
could spot the nest a little through the scope but looks hidden by
the taller grass around like it was at Parsaul last year.
The Second did show up a nest and one egg. It was not there
on Sunday - Conclusion: It build its nest during the last three
days (making a nest is a two-day process) and probably laid the
egg on 29th or 30th - the second should be due today or tomorrow
as the second egg is laid with the gap of two days.
Nest on the west side, had the Sarus in sitting position for almost
two hours that I spent in the Wetland.= - I assume it is active.
The fourth Nest - possible. Saw the pair exactly at the same place
just outside Thasrana Village. Could not spot the nest from a distance
but the farmer said they had been there for a week or so now.
Another interesting observation - saw three Adults alone and feeding,
one at Parsaul and two near Village Alipura. Does it mean that their
partner was on nest ? This is normal. When one is sitting on the nest
the other is feeding and they take turns except in the night when the
female sits on the nest and the male keeps vigil nearby.
Here is a video link - Sarus feeding.

Sorry, shutterbugs - no 'studio' photo opportunities this year.
Nests are more than fifty meters away from the nearest approach
point.
Enjoy.
