Large Niltava (Niltava grandis)- a lovely Lifer
This hill bird has been eluding me for years, although I have come across its smaller cousin the Small niltava quite a few times. Owing to its extremely shy nature and preference for dense shady thickets, this large gorgeous bird is certainly one of the most difficult-to-photograph birds of the hills.
Its melodious call was resounding through the montane-forests of Jhandi, but we could hardly get a glimpse of the songster. After a long wait, this individual came out of the bush for a short period and allowed me to take some shots.
Location: Jhandi.
Darjeeling district.
