Species: Cinereous Vulture - Aegypius monachus - juvenile
Date: 24th Dec. 2012
Location: Outskirts of Bikaner, Rajasthan, India
Habitat: City dump-yard.
Status: Least concern.
Remarks: Jor Beed is a sprawling dump yard at its worst, (with dog menace aplenty) on the periphery of Bikaner where one can come across a huge congregation of many species of Accipitridae (mostly Juveniles and sub-adults) in the winter months. We sighted at-least four species of vultures: The Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Himalayan Vulture (Gyps himalayensis) Cinereous Vulture (Aegypius monachus) a lone Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliacal), few Tawny Eagles (Aquila rapas) and the largest population of Steppe Eagles (Aquila nipalensis) here.

Gunjan
