During this trip we were fortunate to see all the Shrike Babblers (well, atleast the ones realistically possible)
-- The Black-eared Shrike Babbler(Pteruthius melanotis) is probably the most comical amongst the Pteruthius with its mannerisms and looks. We always saw it in mixed hunting parties which would have no more than a pair.
Interesting these birds with a double barreled 'last name' are it seems are neither. Currently bundled in the family Timaliidae, they are set to be moved to the new world family of Vireos (family Vireonidae) [ref Sushma Reddy, Joel Cracraft -
Old World Shrike-babblers belong with New World Vireos]
. An example of convergent evolution across new and old world species.23rd April, Eaglenest, India
