(delhibirdpix) A long shot at a bird that looks like a Turkestan Tit

Hi Folks,
Mr. Sujit K. Das, a member of the Birds of India Forum (http://birdsofindia.webs.com/) visited Kashmir valley recently and posted some images in the "Photo Gallery". One of them labeled Great Tit (perhaps, correctly) caught my eye because it looked unlike any Great Tit that I had seen before. The bird appeared paler, with a larger cheek patch and seemed to show a very thin and broken black border to the cheeks. Checking with Rasmussen, I found that many of these traits matched the description of Turkestan Tit (Parus bokharensis) and even the alula appeared pale as described by Rasmussen in BSA. Being unfamiliar with the western races of the Great Tit, it is impossible for me to draw any conclusions. The fact that the known range of Turkestan Tit is Afghanistan is not a big issue. Kashmir is not far from Afghanistan and we are finding new birds at odd places these days.
