(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 44.100 - Sarus Crane (Grus antigone) - 2014-272

WITH THE CORRECT 100TH IMAGE NOW.  APOLOGIES.
________
Saturday, 30th August, was another trip to Kherli-Hafijpur-Bilaspur-Bhatta-Parsaul area (45-70 SSE of Delhi) that we have discovered recently. The area has shown us more Sarus Cranes than the population estimated for the two districts of Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida,
Greater Noida and a lot more).

Here is another one - 100TH  or A Century of Images of this bird that I have shared.
These include now an almost complete story -  From a Dance, Nest, Eggs on Nest, Perched
on Nest to Incubate, Defence of Nest, Just Borns, A Few Days Olds, A Few Week Olds,
Young Ones a Few MonthsOld, Fledged, Juveniles and of course, any number of
Adults on Ground and in Flight.  Some Videos too.

The Best is the Dance of Sarus, captured over 91 Seconds in about 80 odd frames
and then made in a Collage that has a Height of 1.5 Feet and Width of 19 Feet.

Cheers.

(delhibirdpix) That Elusive Skulker

One of the most elusive of our Laughingthrushes, that i got after waiting for more than an hour on a hill-slope at Hilley in West Sikkim. It was constantly calling from inside the bush. At first I thought it was the more common Chestnut-crowned, but once it peered through the thickets to reveal its identity, and I noticed those unmistakable scales. I made up my mind not to leave the spot without taking its shots. I tried to conceal myself behind a bush, and finally this secretive bird came out in the open- just within a few feet. I had just got a glimpse of this bird at Kyangnosla Alpine Sanctuary of Sikkim in Oct-2009, but cudnt take a single shot owing to its extremely shy nature. So i m considering the species as a Lifer.

(delhibirdpix) A Long-cherished Dream finally fulfilled---

Hi,
sharing the shot of one of my favourite birds. I searched for it in the hills of Tunganath-Chopta two years back in vain. I was very eager to get this bird during my Sikkim trip. I visited Hilley- a place located at an altitude of abt 9000feet and decided to stay there for a week. I had no idea about the area and its birds. One of my fellow birder friends had visited Hilley and got some nice birds. So i asked her about the birdlife of Hilley, as i wud be visiting alone, but she didnt even bother to reply. Its disheartening to find that some people are really selfish, and they just run for fame.
I was very much hurt, as I shared good terms with that person and didnt expect this kind of behaviour. But i didnt lose my confidence and fortunately I got really close shots of different birds in the entire Sikkim-Lava trip- some of which I didnt even expect.

I m more than happy, as I got most of these birds without the help of any "bird-guide". This particular bird was high on my wishlist, and i cudnt  get a single glimpse of this species - even after waiting for two consecutive days at the probable site. I lost all hope of getting the bird. On the third day, just a single bird arrived, it came very close to me  - as if to give me the shots i was longing for....and once i had taken the shots, it vanished into the forest. The whole incident seemed very surprising and divine to me...and the bird was not spotted again during the next few days of my stay. I get goose-bumps whenever i think about this lovely birding moment.
