Re: [BirdPhotoIndia] Re: Imperial Green Pegeion at Jayanti

Hi Dalia,
Nice image.
From the picture it seems that  you  got the Thick-billed Pigeon on the top branches of the dead tree on Jainti river bed.

Well...Buxa-Jainti is also one of my favourite birding areas.....i  just love  to  roam in these dense pristine forests in search of birds...i  got  many  birds  during my last visit in June 2009  including the rare Ruddy kingfisher during jeep-safari...and  a  huge flock of Spot-winged starlings.
But the danger of elephants is really a problem in Buxa...especially  when birds along the Alipur Duar-Jainti road....and  they  come  so  silently.
I remember  I cudnt concentrate on birds becoz  of  the  fear of elephants....and i had a terrifying encounter with a herd of these pachyderms while birding near the Bala river. The herd was crossing the road ...just few metres away from me...and  the  tusker warned me by nodding its head. The thought of that incident gives me goosebumps even today.

You will be surprised to know that i got the Thick-billed Green pigeons in the Banyan tree beside the big tea-shop at Jainti. At first i cudnt beleive my eyes.... The entire flock visited that tree everyday to feed on the ripe figs. Sharing a few shots of Thick-billed pigeons taken there.

i  am also very  eager  to  know  about  the birds that  u  spotted in Jainti during this trip.
....and please  suggest  a few good  birding  spots in the area...where  i  can  get  some nice birds.
.,,,and  please tell  which  time of the day is best for birding at Jainti

regards
Shantanu :)

Hi,

I would like to know what are the birds you saw in your jayanti trip.
The reason for being curious to know is jayanti always favourite
destination of mine. This year Feb - i made a plan there - but
unfortunately i could not make it finally due to illness.

Also - i would like to know about Rovers' Inn. Where is this hotel? Is
it near Buxa duar or Jayanti? Please elaborate.

Thanks & Regards,

Amit
