Eurasian Hobby (Falco subbuteo) breeds in Ladakh during July-August. It is a common summer visitor in lower green valley bottoms of Central & Western Ladakh & can commonly be found in Shey marshes during May-Sept period. They are one of the most aerial hunters, feeding on insects, mostly Dragonflies & also small birds. They are known to often dismember & eat insects while on the wing. Prey is also consumed on favorite perches. Regards Manoj Sharma |
