(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 55.05 - White-Throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) - 2011-041

Spent a very lovely and pleasant Sunday morning birding at Dadri Wetlands, 40 KMs South-East of Delhi, India - a place which is just about breathing its last season. If the full page newspaper advertisement picture is to be believed, not an inch of wild green would be left any where. The construction is in full swing with dozens of dumpers and earth moving equipment causing a traffic jam in an area where we just stopped our vehicle where we liked - not any more.

Some birds are adapting. Saw the Kingfishers - Common, Pied and White-throated, the three species we see in the area - were oblivious of the dumper and continued to fish in water channel which is full with fish thanks to the bountiful rains and over-flowing fish hatcheries to which a couple of ponds were converted.

Here is the White-throated Kingfisher taken on 6th. Many pairs seen and hopefully there would be some breeding.
