(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - #77.01 - Asian Openbill (Anastomus oscitans) - 2011-082

Dadri looked beautiful and was full of birds till December, following the heavy rains that restored the habitat to what it was till 2008, but since then the construction activity is in full swing and almost half the area is now been filled and flattened using soil.

Most birds have departed. Pied and Common Kingfishers were absent - neither heard nor seen.

Sarus was obliging. A pair close to fill frames and a family in flight. Storks - all four seen. Waders almost all that are seen were there but not in good numbers and without the Ruffs.

Waterfowl - most species present but just about less than a thousand only.

Notwithstanding, this pair of White-throated Kingfishers has decided to increase their family. It was good to see that a nest has been made, the two are perching close to each other every now and then and getting in to the nest. Not sure if the eggs have been laid. If not, that event is not too far.

Asian Openbill came in pretty close to fill frame. Here are two images - This Whiter One is in Breeding Plumage.

Cheers.
