Notes:

Not a good shot.... but this species is rarely being photographed in India, hence sharing it with the groups. And as Rajneesh mentioned (about the Barred Buttonquail) this is also not a true quail with female being more colourful and polyandrous.....it has a funny sounding scientific name too :-)

We were on our routine morning Safari in Bandhavgarh National Park (Madhya Pradesh), when we encountered this female Yellow-legged Buttonquail at the edge of the road. There was something peculiar about its behaviour. It did not move from its place (and was perfectly camouflaged) even when our jeep passed closely, followed by 2 more jeeps, yet it stood its ground for a couple of mins and started to bob to & fro as if trying to mimic a wind blowing grass tuft. However, it eventually had to retreat in the grass due to the over-enthusiastic photographers wanting to take closeups.

This is my 2nd sighting of this species in Bandhavgarh in as many years.
