(delhibirdpix) Zitting Cisticola- Kalikapur wetlands

Hi
visited Kalikapur wetlands today morning...almost after a month. The reeds have turned brown, and the entire marsh has dried up too. The rare warblers for which Kalikapur became a birding hotspot a month back...have also vanished. There was very less bird activity. Only few Plain Prinias, Zitting Cisticolas and Paddyfield Pipits were spotted. But the bird that  stole the show was the magnificent Black-headed Shrike (Lanius schach tricolor).  It was singing loudly perched on the branch of a leafless silk-cotton tree (Bombax ceiba).
This is the Eastern or Himalayan race of the Long-tailed Shrike (Lanius schach) with a distinct black head cap. It winters in Kolkata and other parts of lower Bengal.

Location: Kalikapur wetlands, Kolkata. West Bengal, India.
Camera: Sony HX1

regards
Shantanu.
