Hi,
279- The ubiquitous Rufous-bellied Niltava...shot on 24.4.11
876- The next day (25.4.11), as it was raining since early morning and we had a plan to go for birding, taking our jeep after breakfast, my friends decided to stay close to our rest house and watch birds there. So I took my camera under my raincoat and went down following the forest trails alone. There were usual Whiskered Yuhinas, Striated bulbuls, a solitary Oriental Turtle Dove and a few warblers. When I was just thinking of returning back,I heard a loud irritated, nasal call like that of an Oriental Magpie Robin..'chhyan,chhyan'. I turned on my heel only to have a quick glimpse of a cobalt blue flash of a bird. Instantly, I knew it was a new bird for me! It dashed into the compact darkness inside a conifer forest full of Cryptomeria japonica trees. It seemed, the forest had almost sucked it into its 'black hole'.I could only manage a few record shots of it when it sat on a horizontal branch. It was a Large Niltava! Within seconds it flew away to an unknown destination.Later my friends became really jubilant hearing the news and seeing it in my camera screen. :-)
Both the birds were shot at Kolakham,West Bengal,India.
Thanks and regards,
Maitreyee
