Took advantage of my temporary posting in Jorhat for a little birding in the
tea estates neighbouring Kaziranga NP. Although dark and overcast with the
occasional drizzle, the 4 hour session yielded several 'lifers' for me.
These were Great Hornbill, Black Baza, Pied Falconet, Blue-bearded
Bee-eater, Lesser Coucal and Slaty-breasted Rail (a rather fuzzy photo
attached). Also had some good views of the Green Magpie. The Blue-naped
Pitta, once again, did not deign to make an appearance but we heard its
calls regularly.
There were a pair of these Rails and they were seen on the edge of the Tea
Garden near a shallow drain. Unusual habitat for them, I think.
