Dear all
My husband Gireesh and I are a lazy couple. Our birdwatching sessions are limited to our balcony, or while driving, or through the lovely emails that are shared in the group - both Delhibird and pics.
We seldom go out for birdwatching. infact i have never been on a group outing.
But last week, I got a big shock when while cleaning I found out that my priceless binoculars had collected " lot of dust" and it was time that they had a birding outing too. I had to save them from getting the fungi. We decided on Friday that come what may we must go for birdwatching. i think we didn't sleep that night. determined, that we had to make it to Sultanpur. We zoomed to Sultanpur in the wee hours of morning. .. (yup 4:30 pm). we didnt know the route. Someone had casually mentioned its near hero honda chowk. We finally found the place after 2 hours and circling in Gurgaon for thirty minutes. Dot 6:30 we were at the gates of Sultanpur. our world literally came crashing down or rather i am yet to recover from the shock that Sultanpur Bird Sanctaury was closed for three months. It came as a slap on our face.
It was a mistake not to check with the birding club
We decided to do some birding in and around Sultanpur and Rosy Pelican offered up the much needed Chai to soothe our battered birding selves.
here's what we saw from Rosy Pelican ;)
Here's our modest list - Green bee eater (s) swayed from one brach to another like little children later to be reprimanded by the seniors for not catching the early worm for breakfast . Infact they are quite acrobatic in nature. To me they remind me of MIG but with better stunts. then there was the busy Hoopoe looking for insects in the grass. It reminds me of my collegue who is always occupied with work and seldom raises her head . We also spotted ducks (sorry couldn't id them) flying to and fro from the sanctuary. Everytime i saw birds flying into the the sanctuary, I couldn't resist jumping the wired fence... if only it matched by height;). We could hear the Black Francolin calling from the park. Parakeets gave company to the bored Mynas. We also caught a glimpse of Black-rumped Flameback. The rest of the list included Common Tailorbird, Shikra, Cormorants, Indian Grey Hornbill, Asian Koel,
I have attached a picture. is it White-throated Kingfisher? it will be great if you could confirm the same . apologies for the size
Regards
Dipali
