(delhibirdpix) Alpine Chough

Hi All,

An Alpine Chough, Pyrrhocorax graculus on 29Jun2011, at Tapovan (4460 m / 14650 ft), 4kms from Gaumukh Glacier, Uttarakhand, India.

Not many birds were seen here, the Tapovan list below:

1. Lammergeier, Gypaetus barbatus (lone bird)
2. Rosy Pipit, Anthus roseatus (many in full song given in skylark type flight or from ground / boulders)
3. Alpine Chough, Pyrrhocorax graculus (many)
4. Blue-fronted Redstart, Phoenicurus frontalis (Ocassional, many with prey in their bills)
5. Plain Mountain Finch, Leucosticte nemoricola (Few)
6. Rock Pigeon, Columba livia (Few)

PS 
Recalling the ease with which I had trekked to Tapovan in 1996 we (old trek buddies) attempted it again this time, but the terminal moraine over the Glacier, which is collapsing at many places, made us edgy! The gaping crevices are risky and trekking is not advisable. This is my last visit to Tapovan (unless the govt. does something about a safe crossover).
