Species Name : Acridotheres tristis
Location : Contai, East Midnapur, West Bengal
Date taken : 05 October 2011
Equipments : Nikon D90 + Nikkor 70-300mm AF VR Zoom
Special Remarks: This image was taken near a Durga Puja Pandal in my hometown. The light decorations of the Pandal had attracted a lot of moths to the site the night before, and next morning I saw this Common Myna and many other birds making a hearty meal out of the moths. Upon looking closely I saw that the bird was grossly deformed. Both its Upper and Lower Mandibles were deformed/broken(Image I). It also had a Tarsal Deformity on its left foot looking like a missing/amputated toe (Image II). The head and wing feathers of the bird were also heavily infested with Bird Lice (Image III & IV).
Birds with damaged bills which cannot preen themselves properly are usually hosts to heavy infestations with Bird Lice.
