[BirdPhotoIndia] Common Barn Owl (Earlier called Barn Owl) Which a colleague saved from crows.

Common Barn Owl  (Earlier called Barn Owl)

Tyto Alba

A colleague of mine, Paul Eugene Verghese ( recently joined this forum) saw this beauty being chased by Crows which were attacking it and it was running on the road in front of our houses.  He saved the poor creature and took it home. Then we tried to sgive it to the local zoo. the zoo staff refused to accept it.  I remembered a person whom I had met who isan expert on birds. He was called an he turned out to be a Falconer and was extremely glad to see the bird. He said that it had to be released in the jungles in the night and checked and said that it was hale and hearty. Only a few feathers had been plucked.  He said that everyday it has to be fed with at least two rats. The next day it vomits out what it has eaten in the form of a Pulp with the bones and skull of the rats. The fur of the rats help in cleaning up it's digestive system.  The reason why the crows attack it in the morning if they see it, is that in the night, it searches out and attacks the chicks of crows.  More amazing facts on owls we learnt that day and I can go on and on.  Finally the owl was released in the jungles of Mardamalai hills at 10 PM. The release was covered by a local paper also.

During the short time we spent with the beauty, it happily posed for us for some snaps.
