(delhibirdpix) RETROSPECTIVE 2012

WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY & PROSPEROUS 2013.

Wish You All A Very Happy &  A Prosperous New Year 2013! As usual again  this year also I have taken this opportunity to compile  some highlights  of   of 2012 you can add if I have forgotten to add any . Year, 2012 was good as far as new , important & rare sighting of birds is  concerned despite habitat loss and degradation, (OBP,Dadri,Shankar Vihar, JNU) ,but  new  habitats like Bhatti Mines & Surajpur Bird Sanctuary were good enough   in the list of  hot birding destinations for  delhibirders .  The main focus of 2012 was Sonkhaliya  ( Rajasthan )from July onwards up to Sept for GIB's & Lesser Floricans. Bikram Grewal's Waltare was equally important birding destination for many of us with great hospitalities.

As far as species sightings are concerned  they were good enough like  Sociable Lapwings ( Photographed by Sharad Sridhar) & Grey Headed Lapwings from Basai, ( Photgraphed by Anand Arya,Koshy ,& Wingco)& Khadar ( Sighted by  few of us). Breeding & nesting of Bristle grass birds & Sarus (Surajpur,SNP & Basai) , nesting of Blacknecked Storks (Sultanpur National Park & Surajpur) were   equally important .  Red Headed Vultures & Great Tits(  Photographed by Pankaj Gupta & Abhishek Gulshan) from Manger Forests.

Sighting of Leucistic birds is 2012 were  also good & surprised all of us specially Common Coot ( OBP T.K.Roy ) & Common Mynas by yours truly in JNU & IITDelhi . Black Headed Cuckoo Shrike  ( sighted by KB@ OBP). Marshall's Iora from Asola by Sajeev T.K. & Indian Black Eagle  from Aravalli Biodiversity Park by KB and group. There were many actions & Re-Actions on mails which finally turned out quite fruitful .

Rusty Tailed Flycatcher by Sudhir Vyas in April @ Central Delhi ,Grass Hopper Warbler by Nitu Sethi & Pankaj Gupta @ Basai were interesting records .

Nik,Biks & Ravi   You  took the initiatives & started  the  illustrated talks once again which  were very  enriching at the same time very informative but  2012 was not a very encouraging for talks except few..

Broadbill flower pecker ,Rufous Tail Larks & Tickell's Thrush, Grey Headed Buntings. from JNU by self & Col.Sangwan were very encouraging.JNU will miss you Col. Sangwan on coming BBD 2013  I want you in JNU on this particular Day.

Maximum trips were made  to Basai & SNP in 2012. Tal Chaper remained on top for raptor sightings specially for Lesser Kesteral. Over all good birding year 2012 is going to end in  few hours & let the new dawn of 2013 bring in more bird species for us to sight.. Yamuna Banks ( Khadar) in 2013 would be very prominent birding destinations in the days to come along with YBP Phase II .

 'A VERY HAPPY & PROSPEROUS 2013 '

Happy Birding
