Hi..
Sunday.. 10/03/13, early morning, Srikumar Bose and yours truly were on a recce to the Kharibari wetlands area, on the outskirts of Rajarhat, 24 Parganas (N). West Bengal to check out the flow of return migration this season. On reaching the area we were soon to spot a flock of Pied Avocets (numbering 38), another.. a little ahead (about 50 nos) and then, yet another.. a huge conglomeration this time.. of about 350 birds. There was also quite an impressive congregation of Black-Winged Stilts wading merrily in shallow water and flocks of spectacular Grey-Headed Lapwings dazzling in the morning sunlight kept our shutters busy.
Other notable winged biped noticed were Red-Collared Dove (a pair), Grey-Bellied Cuckoo (male), Common Hawk-Cuckoo (in abundance), Eurasian Wryneck, Four types of Kingfishers – White-Breasted, Common, Stork-Billed and Pied, Common, Wood and Green Sandpipers, Barn Swallows, Little and Temminck's Stints, White, Yellow and White-Browed Wagtails, Little-Ringed Plover, Crested-Serpent Eagle not to mention the other commoners, typical to the area. Attaching a record shot of the male of the Red-Collared Dove pair clicked by my companion.
Cheers!
Caesar.

Postscript : A repeat run yesterday (24/03/13) around more or, less the same area yielded 11 nos Painted Storks among large flocks of Grey Herons and Asian Openbills and hundreds of Black-Winged Stilts - usual visitor to this area around this time of the year.
Further ahead we also did see a flock of a dozen and a half Black-Headed Ibis with Intermediate and Little Egrets busy digging out food from the mudflat they were wading upon. 'C'.
