(delhibirdpix) Moustached Warbler Adult

Species: Moustached Warbler - Acrocephalus melanopogon mimicus - Adult

Location:  Basai Wetlands, NCR of Delhi, India

Habitat: Submerged Lesser Bulrush.

Status: Least Concern

Remarks: The Birds were first noticed here in August end in a small patch.of an acre or so of  submerged narrow Leaf Cat-tail plants (Typha angustifolia), two adults and a juv. were observed on a couple of occasions since. The possibility that they bred somewhere nearby cannot be ruled out. The birds are skulkers and keep themselves to the dense lower storey of the plants but do expose themselves occasionally on an overcast day. They search for insects on the surface of the water and forage around the inner blades of the plants near water. They often cock their tails Robin like flicking them. The juv. that was without tail feathers when we first noticed him now seems to be getting them.
