(delhibirdpix) Streak-throated Barwing

Streak-throated Barwing (Actinodura waldeni)
Place: Mayodia Pass, Mishmi Hills, Arunachal Pradesh
Date: Mar'14

The scientific name is given in the honour of a Scottish soldier & ornithologist, "Viscount Walden" also known as "Lord Arthur Hay". In India, we get 3 types of Barwing, namely, Rusty-fronted, Hoary-throated & Streak-throated. There are some records of cross breeding between Streak-throated & Hoary-throated Barwings.

We saw this Barwing along with Dark-rumped Rose Finch & Black-faced Laughingthrush, feeding on grains/food waste thrown behind a canteen. Not much bothered about our presence, they allowed us to come close.
