(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 44.95 - Sarus Crane (Grus antigone) - 2014-260

Kherli-Hafijpur-Bilaspur-Bhatta-Parsaul area (45 SSE of Delhi) that we have discovered recently produced more Sarus
Cranes than the population estimated for the two districts of Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida,
Greater Noida and a lot more).

This is where one see Sarus in good numbers - this time one flock was missing from our beat and
we spotted a total of 41 - the lowest of the tally so far from this area.

One does get pretty close to the birds - here is a slightly cropped version from a frame.

We would need to make efforts to save this area for Sarus as the area has been designated for
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.  We would be collecting data on species
and the Sarus seen in this area in the coming months.  Any one visiting, please share with me the
data and images, particularly of Sarus and if you notice a nest, do let us know.

Here is a Sarus image taken on 17th.

Cheers.
