Crimson-breasted Woodpecker (male)
One of the very few woodpeckers that i got during my Eastern Himalayan Trip. Not a Lifer , as i have seen it in Dec-2008 during my first trip to Lava. I had taken some poor distant shots with my compact zoom camera. We thought it to be a Darjeeling woodpecker, so we were very excited, but it turned out to be a crimson breasted.......... and we were overjoyed.

This individual was however spotted during a casual afternoon stroll along the lower Lava-Rishyap road- just a few hundred metres away from the din and bustle of the town. I was photographing a pair of whiskered yuhinas on a leafless roadside tree, when he arrived all of a sudden and started pecking on the lichen-covered branch in search of insects and grubs- almost oblivious of my presence. I sat down on a large rock and took shots to my heart's content.
