Rufous-vented Yuhina (Yuhina occipitalis)
One of the not-so-often seen yuhinas and certainly a Lifer for me.
It was seen during a early morning walk on a forest trail at Hilley. It was sunny day, but in spite of that, there was low bird activity. Small flocks of common hill birds consisting of green-backed tits, whiskered yuhinas, leiothrix, and green-tailed sunbirds were mainly spotted. Suddenly a pair of these little birds came out of the thickets and started calling loudly to ward off intruders (in this case its me) . It seemed they were busy making nest in the bamboo thickets. There was a nesting material in the beak of one of those birds. The other one came down to the lower branches of the bamboo and gave me some close shots. Please note the rufous vent and back of the crest of the bird- which are the diagnostic features of this species.
