We saw the Crimson-backed Sunbird too at Bondla. Being the smallest sunbird at 8 cm, it refused to come in my camera frame.
-- Given that the Vigor's is not a forest sunbird, I was told to look for it in coastal area gardens. Several walks in the neighbourhood where I stayed, yielded no Vigor's - until the morning of my last day while having my morning cuppa by the poolside in my host's house, two blackish small sunbirds turned up. And yes, they were Vigor's (juveniles), playing vigorously around the poolside plants, probably some variety of Zingiber officinale.
A great parting gift of a lifer for me!
