Re: (delhibirdpix) Re: Terrace Birding: Tawny Eagle?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I just noticed the carpal wegdes. Fulvenscens morph of Greater spotted would show broader wings IMO.
Also, tawny seems more likely in a lightly wooded area, like around my house. GSE is usually tied to water. If this is indeed tawny then it would be a nice record for Delhi.
Here is one more angle:

Good guess for a Tawny Eagle as the tail seems longish and carpal wedges are present though not prominent.
Another guess could be for an intermediate fulvescens morph of Greater Spotted Eagle though the tail ought to have been shorter and rounded.
Sorry for the rather iffy reply but Aquila eagles are an iffy subject.

With the excellent weather we have been having around Delhi these last few days, I spent about an hour strolling on my terrace and taking in the sun.

This fairly large raptor flew directly overhead and I noticed that it was a little unusual. I rushed downstairs to get my camera and by the time I was back the raptor had moved further away, but luckily it was circling. Took a few quick shots before it was too far and out of sight.

Size seems somewhat larger than a Black Kite
Tail is quite short and rounded
The fingers at the wing tips seem shorter than that of Steppe Eagle

Though I am not very familiar with Aquila eagles I think it could be juvenile Tawny. Requesting opinions of others on the ID
(Please excuse the poor quality of pics...they are all heavy crops)
