(delhibirdpix) Black-headed Cuckooshrike at Manger (Faridabad,NCR) July 2015

A pair of Black-headed Cuckooshrikes (Coracina melanopetra) have been regularly seen near Manger over the last few days. They were seen/photographed by Col Pankaj Sharma on 28 June 2015 and again on 4 July 2015. On Sunday 5th July 2015 a few of us (led by KB and Pankaj Gupta) observed the pair at the same location repeatedly over a long duration. They moved in the same area, the whistling notes of the male could be heard often.

Black-headed Cuckooshrikes are rare in the Delhi area (experts pl opine). They are summer birds in peninsular India, and have been reported rarely ?in passage in Delhi area. As they nest May to Sept, could this pair be breeding here?
This would be an important record for Delhi/NCR.
Manger has been throwing surprises lately. Manger village is in Faridabad district of Haryana, and has been in the news because of its forests, which the locals protect. The area is part of the Aravalli range, and similar to the adjoining Asola in terrain.

Photographs by Col Pankaj Sharma.
