Himalayan Monal female | Kedarnath WLS, Uttarakhand | 13th June 2013
This particular female was quite worried and was calling out loudly as a Yellow-throated Marten was eyeing on her chicks. Proud mom was successful in deceiving the predator as we saw her hiding the chicks in a small cave formed by few rock outcrops at a cliff and then going far away from the site, calling loudly to distract the marten.
This I guess would be a common tactics for the ground dwelling birds like this to safeguard their chicks from the lurking predators.
